LIBRARY NOTES from Mrs. Allison
The ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain is pleased to continue offering the Library ECHO pass. It will expire on October 31, 2008. It is valid daily for up to two adults and three youth at two dollars ($2) each. Visit them online at www.echovermont.org to see their amazing schedule. And visit the library to sign out the card. It will be on the parenting shelf in it's own white box. If you are used to manually signing it out, there is now a material number to record, just as if you were signing out a book. If you are interested in signing out the card and can't make it into the library, please call or email me (mallison@moretownschool.org) and I can send it home with your child.
The Scholastic Book Blizzard is coming to Moretown School! Once again, we will be privy to a wonderful array of books from Scholastic, just in time for the holidays. We will even have an "adults only" room for all the gadgets, toys, pencils, etc, that come along with the book fair. The fair will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15th from 3 - 8 pm and on Monday, Nov.19th from 11:00 am - 8 pm. There will be a pajama storytime for all ages on Thursday the 15th at 6:30 in the library. All profits will benefit our beautiful school library. It's a win-win situation: buying books for your children means more books for your children to check out from the library!
We still need volunteer cashiers! I can't say much about the pay, but the work is fun! Please call or email me, mallison@moretownschool.org. Thank you!

Redefining Parenting in the 21st Century: Creating Possibilities for Families in the New Millennium
Do you ever wonder why parenting today seems so much harder than it was for your parents? Are you ever shocked by your children's behavior and at a loss for how to handle it? Have you ever felt as if your day is spent putting out "family fires"? Join in an evening that will begin the conversation about parenting today and provide you with 3 strategies that you can use immediately to create cooperation and mutual respect in your family.

Everything is Possible: Motivating Our Children Toward Appropriate and Responsible Behavior
Do you wish you could get your child to do more of the things you'd like? Do you find yourself "on your kids' "case" most of the time? Do more of your days end with exhaustion and discouragement? This evening looks at some of the reasons our children misbehave and expands our possible responses with tools that create a positive atmosphere and get more of the behavior we desire from our children.

Listening Does Not Mean Agreeing: It’s Possible to Hear Our Children and to Have Our Say
Have you ever found yourself fighting with your kid before you even knew what was happening? Are you feeling frustrated that you don't get a chance to let your kids know how you are feeling? Does it seem as if your "talks" never do any good? Come to an evening designed to assist you in recognizing when you are stepping onto a "slippery slope" with your child. You will learn how to listen so that your child feels heard AND how to have an opportunity to express yourself as well.

Loving Limits: Creating Boundaries that Encourage Cooperation and Mutual Respect in Families is Possible
When is enough, enough? How do I say "no" to my child without it always becoming a huge battle? What is acceptable behavior now? Together we will create several possible responses to our children's out of bounds and sometimes dangerous behavior. We will add strategies to our parenting toolboxes that limit behavior without generating bad feelings. It is possible to feel good about parenting and "put the brakes" on unacceptable behavior.
