Dear Parents & Friends,

From the Health Office.

Recently, we’ve had students and faculty out with the "stomach flu". Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea. Headache and fever may be accompanying factors. In general, symptoms begin 1 to 2 days following infection with a virus and usually last for 24-48 hours; however, symptoms can linger up to 10 days. A virus usually causes the stomach flu, therefore, antibiotics are not recommended for treatment. Some comfort measures to help alleviate symptoms are:

REST

Drink plenty of fluids, especially water or fruit juice diluted with water. Your physician may give you specific instructions about what kinds of fluids to give. Dehydration can occur from loss of fluids and can make symptoms worse. Dehydration can be serious in young children, please contact a physician if suspected.

Ginger Ale, Peppermint tea, and ginger can be given to help with nausea.

Antacids may help to reduce abdominal cramping.

Take comfort measures: chicken soup, warm baths, etc

Encourage frequent handwashing to decrease transmission

Disinfect surfaces with a bleach or hypochlorite based cleaner. Or use 2 tsp. Of Tea Tree oil with 2 cups of water in a spray bottle or use ˝ cup of white vinegar in 1 cup of water.

Frequent and prompt washing of soiled articles of clothing in warm or hot water.

Just a reminder, please keep your child home if he/she has vomited or has had diarrhea in the past 24 hours, has a fever over 100 degrees F, or is not feeling well enough to make it through the day.

Thank you and stay well,

Karyn Kaminski, RN, School Nurse

Shaws' receipts

Nathan Russell and Nathanael Kuzio are collecting Shaws’ receipts for the benefit of the Central Vermont Humane Society (CVHS). If you have receipts please put them in the office window. There will be a house shaped box there. Thank you.

From the music department

Mark your calendars! The Winter Concert is on January 31st. at 6:30. Prepare your ears for thunderous tire drums, singing, dancing, and renaissance recorder. Students who are not in band should arrive no later than 6:15 and go straight to their seats in the gym. Band students need to have their instruments out, ready for tuning at 6:15 in the music room. Students are encouraged to wear dark bottoms and colorful tops that allow for freedom of movement. If your child will not be able to participate, please send me a written note. I hope to see you there.
