The Scaredy Bat

A Narrative

By Mrs. Orr’s Class

"Ah! I’m scared! I’m frightened! I’m freaked out!" said Betsy-Bob the bat. "I’m so afraid of the night."

"Come on out." Said Joe. "It’s not scary at all. It’s fun and terrific to fly in the night. You need food. It’s all here!"

But Betsy-Bob did not come out. She wouldn’t even think about it. She did not budge.

"I have an idea," replied Joe. "I’ll fly out and catch some lightning bugs. They will be your lantern."

"I’ll stay right here while you go collect lightning bugs for me," answered Betsy-Bob.

Joe went out and caught 12 lightning bugs. He carried them in his mouth back to Betsy- Bob. Betsy- Bob took the lightning bugs and put them in a basket. Their light went through the cracks in the basket.

Joe told Betsy-Bob, "Now you don’t have to be a scaredy bat." So Betsy-Bob slowly crept out of the cave with her lighted basket.

"Thank you Joe. I guess the night isn’t scary after all!" And she flew off quickly to get her dinner and breakfast.
