Mrs. Orr’s Classroom News
November 1, 2007(Rabbit, Rabbit, Day)
Dear Moms and Dads,
Happy day after Halloween! This is always one of the most exciting days for children. I hope you enjoyed your child’s excitement. I really miss creating a costume for my son and taking him trick or treating. Luckily my friend’s twins came to my house for their first Halloween trick or treating experience. They were so cute and made Halloween magical for me once again!
This week I decided to do the newsletter a bit differently. I asked the kids to tell me classroom news they think their parents should know about! Please read below to find out their thoughts. Enjoy!
Your child’s school pictures were sent home on Wednesday. I asked children to carry them in their hand rather than stuffing them into their backpack and causing them to get crumpled.
I have been busy working on your child’s report card and narratives this week. As I put down report card scores, I would like you to know that I think the narrative is the best report to share with your child. It celebrates the strengths of your child as well as states the areas where your child can improve. I think it gives a much clearer picture of your child than numbers alone. I emphasize to the children that we are all good at some things and there are also things that we need to work on. I gave myself as an example. I can make lovely desserts, but really must work on sewing! I also tell them that it is my job to help kids get better at things. In addition, I would also like to note that we have devised a new scoring rubric for social behavior and learning skills. The scores will either be a 2,3, or 4. There are no fives in these areas. For example, how can a child exceed the standard in taking care of his/her belongings? I look forward to meeting with you at our upcoming parent teacher conference.
Well, I must be off to begin heating the wax for candle making today!
Have a great weekend.
DATES TO REMEMBER:
November 5th: PTN meeting, 6:30
November 12th: Report cards go home
November 17th: Pancake Breakfast by the PTN at the Town Hall 8:00-11:00
November 19th: Parent Teacher conferences after school and evening for those that have siblings. After looking at my family list, 13 out of 16 of my students have siblings in our school. I can’t possibly have 13 conferences on the 19th. Thus, I will be offering two other afternoons one on Tuesday November 13 and the other on Thursday November 15th. Please call Mrs. Kathan in the office(496-3742) to make an appointment. Keep in mind that the sooner you call, the more likely you’ll be to get a time that works best for you.
November 28th: Old School Day (more information to follow shortly)
November 28th: School Wide Assembly at 8:15. Our class along with Ms. Hartshorn’s class will lead the assembly.
