Happy Museum Visiting!
"Hello Moretown Families!" As the school year moves along, I am thinking of the arrival of spring and April break; I imagine many of you may like to take a family trip to an Art Museum! I am including as website links the following collection of Art Museums in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. I have visited all of these museums except for the Currier which is actually temporarily closed of renovations, although they do have some programs and facilities currently open.
The Fleming Museum is the University of Vermont's Fine Arts Museum, this museum is dear to me for a few reasons as it is where I had my first art class as a very young child; and it is the location of where I teach my UVM undergrad Art Ed. class! (My UVM students teach an after school art class there!)
The Middlebury College Museum is free to the public and has a beautiful permanent collection of ancient art from various cultures.
The Shelburne Museum is well known to our school children yet there is always more to see with each visit. My Mother was once an educational guide there for school tours, many years ago! It is still a favorite museum of mine to visit yearly.
The Fairbanks Museum is an interesting assortment of natural and man-made objects reflecting the culture of Vermont and of course it includes a Planetarium. This was also a favorite museum of mine as a young child.
The Bennington Museum is a fascinating collection of Vermont inventions, folk art and fine art. It also houses the largest collection of Grandma Moses' memorabilia open to the public, you can even see Grandma Moses' painting table and brushes in addition to many of her original paintings!
The Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire is currently closed as noted previously but it is still possible to visit a local Frank Lloyd Wright house with arrangements made through the museum (children must be at least 7 yrs. old for the house tour) Fantastic Design!
The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Massachusetts is an absolute delightful experience, the museum houses three galleries, an auditorium, library and an Art Studio where children and their families can make artwork together! Plan to arrive early so you can have a full day, especially if you wish to have time in the Art Studio!
I hope you enjoy visiting these museums both on the web and in person, "Happy Museum Visiting!"
